Today
With nearly 400 players of all ages and abilities participating each week in the Geelong United Basketball competition, we are committed to fostering a love of the game while promoting inclusivity and good sportsmanship.
Our family-friendly atmosphere makes us a welcoming environment for players and their families, where every individual can thrive. We take great pride in our exceptional junior boys and girls program that focuses on player development, skill enhancement, and most importantly, having fun!
Unlike many other clubs, we have our own dedicated stadium and training facilities. This allows us to create a space where players can practice, compete and grow together as a community. Our facilities allow us to enhance the basketball experience, providing the perfect backdrop for developing skills and building friendships.
Proud of our rich history, Try Boys Basketball Club continues to be a place where friendships are formed, bonds are strengthened, and memories are made. Whether you’re looking to develop your abilities, engage in competitive play or simply enjoy the camaraderie of basketball, the Bears have something for everyone.
Join us as we continue to build a legacy of excellence, inclusivity and sportsmanship on and off the court. Welcome to the Bears family!

TRY BOYS BRIGADE
The Geelong Try Boys Brigade was established in 1897 by Charles Shannon and is one of Geelong’s longest standing community organisations. The brigade was created to offer a safe and supportive environment for disadvantaged boys through entertainment, education and other activities designed to meet the needs of young people in the community.
The organisation quickly gained popularity, attracting over 15,000 attendances in it’s first year. As it evolved, the Try Boys Brigade expanded its activities to include sports such as basketball and scouting, as well as community engagement initiatives. In the 1950’s, the construction of the Try Boys Stadium became a central hub for all sports activities associated with the organisation. While some programs, like scouting, have seen a decline in participation, the Try Boys Basketball Club continues to thrive, bolstered by the brigade’s ongoing support.
The organisation remains actively involved in assisting local community groups and individuals, including those with disabilities, ensuring its continued relevance and positive impact within the community.
